hook and eye

you fit into me
like a hook into an eye
a fish hook
an open eye
— Margaret Atwood

This is still one of my all-time favorite poems, reminiscent of a chapter in another lifetime. It's brutal, it's painful, and it's oh-so-real. The imagery is even more powerful than the metaphor, so much so that I've done several drawings based on this poem, with this one as the latest iteration.
