“You only have one mind — why would you outsource it to a machine?”
- Dave Eggers, in an interview I watched on YouTube, the title of which I no longer remember
I’m doing my own Inktober, not following any official Inktober prompts (I’m a rebel that way lol), but nonetheless benefiting from the daily practice of creating something, be it a quick five-minute doodle or a mixed media painting that I would go back to the entire day in between working and chores. I’m sharing here the results of the first ten days of October, drawings done with ink, watercolor, acrylic pens, colored pencils, and whatever drawing materials that I have within reach of my messy desk. I’m using a Midori square notebook that C got me last month, which has thicker paper and can handle wet media.
I haven’t done much journaling lately - I think I just can’t sit with my thoughts right now so I’m doing what I do best: run away. If you know me, you’d also know that when I’m not working or doing chores, I’m (over)thinking. I can’t even read lately because reading involves thinking (and I have this Lernaean Hydra of thoughts - poisonous, formidable, and when you chop off one thought, two more grows). So what I’ve been pretty much doing lately is drawing to avoid thinking, and playing around in this notebook somehow silences all these unexpressed thoughts. The drawings are pretty basic but at least I’m not wasting water churning AI slop.
